Boerboels are pretty unique, they have the agility and tenacity of a horse; they can be intimidating like a black bear BUT they are the sweetest; loyal, FUNNY and most loving companion you can ever have. It's quiet amazing at 170 lbs.,(pure muscle) he acts like a little child who wants nothing but to be cuddled. I can't tell you enough how much I love my Boerboel! I say this wholeheartedly, I could never ever trade my Darkwater Hunter for any luxury this life may offer. He is the joy of my life! Thank you Eileen for a wonderful gift. God bless!

Before owning a boerboel, I did extensive research on this breed. The boerboel is a loyal, protective, and very family devoted breed that requires a strong leader. The most important characteristic for me when I was looking for a puppy was its temperament. Once I found Darkwater Boerboels I was very impressed with Eileen’s dogs, knowledge, insight of the breed, and her commitment and value to her breeding program. Eileen’s care and love for her dogs is unsurpassed, and she definitely is in the breeding business for all of the right reasons. Her dedication to this breed and her ability to maintain such a superb quality in breeding boerboels speaks and shows for itself in every one of her amazing dogs. When I first met and laid eyes on Mack, I knew he was the one. Mack is exactly what I was looking for and has been such a joy to own. I couldn’t have asked for a better boerboel. If I had to describe Mack in one word that word would definitely be loyal. His loyalty to his family is incomparable and he always wants to be by our side. At 2 years old and 175 lbs he has far surpassed my expectations and he truly displays the attributes that the boerboel is known for. Mack is by far the most energetic dog that I’ve ever been around and he does require a lot of exercise and attention. He always wants to play and is always ready to go do things. Mack gets along great with other dogs and loves to go to the dog park and play with the other dogs. Eileen does such a wonderful job in making sure her puppies go to great homes. Her commitment to her dogs unquestionably goes beyond the sale of the puppies. Once she sells her puppies, she remains devoted to them throughout their entire life. She continues to keep up with all of her babies and is always there to answer and help with any questions that you might have. I have been truly blessed to have a dog like Mack and I look forward to adding another Darkwater boerboel in the future. Thank you Eileen for everything that you’ve done and for this wonderful experience.

Boerboels are extremely loyal and protective. Angus loves his family and always wants to be with us. Even at 170lbs he is the most active dog I've ever owned. He's a 2x Irondog champion and very agile for his size. He's happiest putting on his backpack and going for a long hike. This is not a breed for everyone, but he's a perfect fit for me.

One day my husband mentioned to me that our next dog he wanted was a boerboel. I had never heard of the breed until he mentioned it so I immediately got online and looked them up. We’ve owned Fila Brasiliero’s and what I immediately noticed was there were some similarity and since we’ve owned mastiffs the boerboel was right up our alley. The thought and conversation was left there until several months after around November 2015 I began the research again and came across the American Boerboel Club website and facebook page. It was through them that learned of Darkwater Boerboel. I emailed Eileen who told me she did not have any litters currently on the ground but possibly early spring. I waited and then I saw that her Oblio had won the best of breed at the 2016 Westminster Dog Show. I reached out once again and that was it! She had a litter on the ground and I was very interested we shared quite a bit of communication and I was sold on my first Boerboel. Sauda (brindle) was my first choice she is quite the pistol, but very smart. I then saw that Eileen still had one other boerboel left and while she tried to talk me out of getting a second boerboel I was completely sold by this puppy and had an instant connection. I got Minzi (liver) when she was 12 weeks of age. These girls keep me very busy, they are complete opposites of each other but I could not be happier. I am looking forward to their growth.

Eileen is by far a very caring and connected person/breeder. She is not just selling you a puppy for the money and good bye to you. She is involved throughout the process and is a great resource; she will even involve other members that may have experienced something she has not, so overall you are not alone in the growth process of your puppy. I could not have asked for a better person to purchase pups from.

Ben and I are first time Boerboel owners. We fell in love with the breed when we saw a beautiful dog on the streets of San Francisco and had to pull our car over to ask what kind of dog the owner had. When he said Boerboel, that's when we started doing the researching. Although we're all the way in California, Eileen was referred to us by another CA Boerboel breeder who didn't quite have a litter when we were looking to purchase. We fell in love with watching the Darkwater Boerboel batch grow, and quite quickly the highlight of our day became seeing the photos of the new little babies. I had some reservations as I am pregnant and wanted to make sure we were making the correct choice for a family dog. After talking to a large amount of Boerboel owners with children, Ben and I knew we had chosen the most perfect breed (and breeder) for that, as our doggie would grow up to be a protector of our home, and a sweet loving girl as long as we trained her right.

Fast forward to now, our puppy is 20 weeks old and I cannot imagine what life was like without her. I wish I were kidding. She is the highlight of our home, and we have a hard time being away from her, even if it's a couple of hours. She's a perfect little addition to our family. Yes, it's taken effort and training, but in my opinion, she's one perfect dog!
